Training process
A structured three-year training process
Locally led, spiritually vibrant, and built to endure for generations.
Swamp Corps partners with host communities to establish vibrant, spiritually rooted Swamp Camps where children and young leaders experience belonging, joy, and growth. Through a structured three-year training process, we provide experienced campers, counselors, and leaders who model camp culture while intentionally developing local leadership. Our aim is not simply to operate camps, but to cultivate a sustainable ministry that becomes locally led, spiritually vibrant, and built to endure for generations.
From invitation to independence
Year by year
-
Alignment
Invitation & Alignment Phase
Once an invitation is extended, a preliminary alignment meeting is held to prayerfully discuss expectations, leadership readiness, available resources, and long-term sustainability. During this phase, both parties review the Swamp Corps Intellectual Property Licensing Agreement, ensuring clarity regarding mission alignment, safety standards, cultural integrity, and financial responsibility. These expectations must be mutually affirmed before proceeding with a formal start-up plan. The estimated timeline from invitation to the launch of Year 1 is typically 12–18 months.
-
Year 1
Establish the Culture
During Year 1, Swamp Corps leads the camp operations while intentionally planting the foundational culture. Clear roles, expectations, safety standards, and leadership rhythms are modeled and implemented. This year focuses on demonstrating what a Swamp Camp looks and feels like in practice, establishing spiritual tone, operational excellence, and team cohesion that will guide future sustainability.
-
Year 2
Train & Strengthen Local Leadership
In Year 2, Swamp Corps transitions from primary leadership to shared leadership. Host leaders and counselors are actively trained and coached in camp operations, safety protocols, a spiritual program, and cultural stewardship. Emphasis is placed on reinforcing expectations, refining systems, and developing confident local leadership capable of sustaining the camp with increasing independence.
-
Year 3
Transfer Ownership & Assess Readiness
By Year 3, the host leadership assumes primary operational responsibility for the camp, while Swamp Corps provides oversight, assessment, and targeted support. Formal evaluation of safety practices, cultural integrity, staffing strength, and financial sustainability ensures readiness for independent operation. This year confirms that the Swamp Camp culture has been fully internalized and can flourish under local leadership.
-
Year 4
Sustain, Support & Multiply
Beginning in Year 4 and beyond, the camp operates independently under host leadership while remaining connected to Swamp Corps and S.C.M.A. for ongoing encouragement, training resources, periodic audits, and leadership development. This continued partnership safeguards cultural integrity, promotes continuous improvement, and strengthens intergenerational impact for years to come.

Ongoing
Ongoing Partnership & Stewardship
Information, Education, Inspiration
After independence, Swamp Corps and S.C.M.A. remain connected through leadership development, annual culture audits, updated training resources, and global collaboration. This enduring partnership protects mission alignment and strengthens each camp for long-term sustainability.
Our ultimate goal
Our ultimate goal is to cultivate a Swamp Camp culture within the host community that is spiritually vibrant, locally led, and sustained for generations. We are committed to this long-term vision because we believe that while one week can change a life, one enduring camp can shape generations.
One week can change a life.
One week can change the world.
