How it all began

A prayer that crossed four countries

“Immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine.” Ephesians 3:20

Mexico 2026

It began with the Cruz family. For three years they traveled to Nicaragua with a group of teens from Honduras to experience Swamp Camp. Later they helped bring camp to Honduras, where countless lives were touched.

Their youngest daughter, Priscila, went on to see camp in Bolivia and Paraguay, and watched how God moves through play, connection, community and wonder.

After years of dreaming and praying, Priscila and Héctor Cruz began sharing that vision with church leaders across Mexico. What started as a prayer became the first Swamp Camp in Mexico in 2026: a new chapter in how God keeps moving through families, faith and friendship across Latin America.

Good to know

Before you go

In an emergency during the trip, call Jeff Rorabaugh at 706-818-5842.

Do I need a visa?

It depends on your nationality. Citizens of the United States, Canada, Japan and the Schengen Area do not need a visa with a valid passport. Citizens of many other countries must get one from a Mexican diplomatic mission before they travel.

Even without a visa you may need to complete the digital migration form (FMMd) and carry a valid passport.

Are vaccinations needed?

Check Passport Health or the CDC page for travelers to Mexico, then find your nearest travel clinic. They will tell you what you need and what it costs.

Make sure your MMR is up to date (you can ask for an MMR titer if you are not sure). Typhoid is highly recommended.

Who can go

Choose your role

Counselors need at least one week at a Swamp Camp behind them, or the Director's permission. Priority goes to people from a place that supports this camp, so the friendship between the two keeps going.

17–30

Counselor

You have been a Christian for at least six months and you want to spend 24 hours a day giving to campers. Single, married or in college.

14–18

Camper

Travel on your own from 14. Coming with a parent? Then camp age applies, which is 9 to 18.

17+

Volunteer

Help the camp run: setup, serving, medical staff. No Swamp Camp experience needed.

Counselors pass a background check and need a recommendation from a ministry leader on file for the year. Under 18? You will also need a consent to travel.
