How it all began
It started with friends
Come help us build something beautiful.

The dream of Swamp Corps Malaysia began with our friends. Church partners in Cambodia and Taiwan told us about a youth program called Swamp Camp: a safe place where young people grow in their faith through fun, adventure and love.
We were curious enough that in 2024 we sent four people to see it for themselves, a married couple and two teenage girls from our church. They joined Swamp Camp in Taiwan and came home excited and inspired. Their stories made us believe Malaysia needed this.
The next July we sent a bigger team, youth ministers included. We did not just watch; we joined in. We met the American volunteers and the camp director and shared our dream of bringing Swamp Camp to Malaysia in 2026. They were supportive and encouraging.
Now the dream is real, and we invite you to be part of it from the beginning. Come help us build something that will shape young lives for years to come.

Good to know
Before you go
In an emergency during the trip, call Jeff Rorabaugh at 706-818-5842.
Do I need a visa?
Most tourists do not need a visa for stays under 90 days, but you must complete the Malaysia Digital Arrival Card (MDAC) within three days of arrival.
You need a passport valid for at least six months beyond your entry date, a blank passport page, proof of funds and a return or onward ticket. Requirements vary by nationality, so check the exact rules for your country before you travel.
Are vaccinations needed?
Check Passport Health or the CDC page for travelers to Malaysia, then find your nearest travel clinic. They will tell you what you need and what it costs.
From our consultation with the UGA Travel Clinic: make sure your MMR is up to date (you can ask for an MMR titer if you are not sure). Highly recommended:
- Malaria: a 23-day prescription of Malarone, which is easier on the stomach and means fewer pills.
- Typhoid: the shot lasts 2 years, the pills last 5.

Who can go
Choose your role
Counselors need at least one week at a Swamp Camp behind them, or the Director's permission. Priority goes to people from a place that supports this camp, so the friendship between the two keeps going.
Counselor
You have been a Christian for at least six months and you want to spend 24 hours a day giving to campers. Single, married or in college.
Camper
Travel on your own from 14. Coming with a parent? Then camp age applies, which is 9 to 18.
Volunteer
Help the camp run: setup, serving, medical staff. No Swamp Camp experience needed.
Counselors pass a background check and need a recommendation from a ministry leader on file for the year. Under 18? You will also need a consent to travel.
